Common Educational Sanctions
The purpose of the student disciplinary system at Illinois is to address violations of the Student Code and to shape the behavior of students to be consistent with community standards. The purpose is not punishment. Students who are found to be responsible for a violation of the Student Code will be assigned a formal sanction as outlined in Section 2.04 of the Student Disciplinary Procedures. In addition, students will also be required to complete educational sanctions, some of which are outlined below. Educational sanctions are assigned to encourage self reflection, repair the harm that may have been to others or the community as a whole, encourage the student to consider the impact of their behavior on their future or personal well being, or to raise the student’s awareness about community standards. Note that this list is not exhaustive and any of these sanctions may be modified in order to accomplish specific educational goals.
